45RPM edition of 300 copies. On ‘Dran’, Innerwoud explores new harmonic realms, seeking a broader sound beyond that of the solo double bass. To mark the 10th anniversary of the project, an old track (Dar II) was reimagined and entirely re-recorded. Innerwoud also invited several key collaborators from the past decade, including Dave French (YOB) and Colin H. Van Eeckhout (AMENRA). Visual artist Lydia Hannah Debeer, who contributed vocals to Innerwoud’s first album ‘Mirre’, lends her voice once again. Gowaart Vandenbossche (yadayn), perhaps the longest-standing musical companion, was also an essential part of this new rendition. The new track, Dran, is built entirely around the possibilities of the double bass. Fresh rhythms and subtle nuances regularly give way to weighty, orchestral moments, allowing the listener to craft their own narrative. The central theme of this release, bridging two full-length albums, is the male bee (the song titles are ancient words, which also gave rise to the term “drone”). Solitary and at times powerless, yet indispensable, these creatures of the hive are not immune to the accelerating mass extinction of life on Earth.
